Learning
about Hides
Grain: Made
from the exterior surface of the hide; smooth, flexible and
wear resistant.
Split Leather:
Made from the interior surface of the hide, sometimes called "Suede."
Pigskin & Goatskin
are Superior to cowhide because they do not shrink or stiffen after
becoming wet. Even with perspiration, cowhide hardens & may
shrink or lose it's shape.
Goatskin: Strong,
soft & not subject to shrinking or stiffening.
Elk: This is
the strongest leather with superior durability.
Deerskin: Combines
durability with unparalleled softness & smoothness.
